(Evanston, Ill.) Six students from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management helped secure silent auction donations on Saturday for the Youth Job Center of Evanston. The event was part of the annual “Kellogg Cares,” a day for students, faculty and alumni to serve the Evanston and Chicagoland community.

Kellogg Cares brought together 350 volunteers this year to complete a variety of service projects, which is the largest number of participants since the program began. At the YJC, student volunteers delivered donation-request materials to dozens of local business managers for donations to be auctioned at the YJC annual benefit in April. The volunteers also shared information about the organization’s services and mission in an effort to help the YJC prepare youth ages 14-25 for success in the workplace.

“We are thankful for Northwestern’s support to help us better serve the local community,” said YJC Executive Director Sacella Smith. “Its continued partnership helps us in our mission to equip youth in job-readiness, placement training and employment support services at a crucial economic time in our country.”

Kellogg has a long history of involvement with the YJC, including other service projects, a consulting project and the donation of funds raised at the annual Kellogg Charity Auction Ball.

“The Youth Job Center is an organization that provides a vital service to clients and companies with mutual needs and interests.” said Wendy Metter, associate director for student affairs at Kellogg and the faculty advisor for the project. “I have personally been a Board member and have tried to acquaint the Kellogg community with it.”
