(Evanston, Il)  The Youth Job Center is pleased to announce the receipt of a $50,000 grant from an Evanston-based family foundation for its building renovation project.  The YJC operates out of a 100+ year old house that is in dire need of updating and restoration.  This grant will enable the YJC to construct an entirely new computer lab in the lower level of the building.  The new lab will be twice the size of the existing space and will accommodate up to 20 computer workstations.

The receipt of this grant is a major first step in the YJC’s proposed facility overhaul.  Funding is being pursued to correct life safety issues, improve space utilization and the work environment, and extend the useful life of the entire building as well.

This grant from the Evanston Based Family Foundation ensures that the YJC can continue to transform the lives of young people in our community. The Youth Job Center shares the Family Foundation’s commitment to providing services to all Evanston youth, and believes that empowering young people through employment is vital to building strong communities for the future.

Architect and Board Member, Robert Lubostky states, “This grant will go a long way to improving the YJC’s service delivery.  The YJC has outgrown its current computer lab and clients often have to wait to access a computer.  The new lab should help eliminate that problem as it will allow more students to attend technology training classes.”

The Youth Job Center of Evanston prepares youth ages 14-25 for success in the workplace through job-readiness, placement and employment support in partnership with employers.
