Youth Job Center of Evanston Summer Tutors Program

(Evanston, Ill.) The Youth Job Center of Evanston’s Summer Tutors Program celebrated its 15th year of placing youth into paid teaching assistant positions this summer. The program celebrated their graduation party this past Friday, July 23rd at Carmen’s Pizza with 44 clients successfully graduating.

The tutors were hired as teaching assistants in District 65 elementary school classrooms for six weeks, which began on June 14. The teens worked Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. They also attend weekly workshops to equip them with critical job skills, such as how to build a resume and how to prepare for an interview. A stipend was awarded upon completion of the program to all of the tutors.

The program acts as an invaluable resource for tutors and students alike. The tutors gained valuable job skills and experience, while acting as positive role models for their younger peers. Through tutoring and mentorship, elementary students have the opportunity to receive the personalized attention they need to foster a deep and lasting love of learning.

Upon completion of the program, the tutors received: a portfolio, an updated resume, a certificate, and a gift card to Target.

The graduating tutors: Latisa Arterberry, Jamie Bates, Crystal Beckford, Casey Berry, Robert Bost, Kiesha Brown, Martez Brown, Michelle Brown, Kashana Burnett, Edith Cano, Arelle Cole, Emma Connor, Jordan Drinkwater, Destini Dumas-Sykes, Harrison Egbon, Darryl Gilmore, Brittany Guillebeaux, Lane Gunderman, Jocelyne Herrera, Lily Hullinger, Whitney Jean, Lorenzo Jones, Gabrielle Kenyon, Violet LaBrosse, Ingrid Lara, Katie Lifanda, Alexis Lowe, Samama Mahmud, Luis Matias, Nadia Mondragon, Perry Nelson, Rashana Nicks, Shanequa Owens, Diamond Perrin, Augustus Pierce, Kyle Roberts, Kathleen Russell, Nolan Shikanai, Sage Siler, David Stillerman, Simone Teamer, Caroline Tooker, Hezekiah Whitfield, Khadya Williams.
