Want to Get Noticed? YJC Summer Employment Series Begins June 8

(Evanston, Ill.) Getting noticed in a competitive job market might seem impossible. But with training from the Youth Job Center of Evanston’s Summer Employment Series, job seekers can find success in their job searches, even in a down economy.

The Summer Employment Series (SES) begins Tuesday, June 8, with a workshop called “How to Market Yourself in a Down Economy.” The workshop, held at the Evanston Public Library from 4:00 – 6:00 PM, will cover topics such as what local employers look for in candidates, how to interview well, and how to ultimately obtain employment.

“We’re excited to offer relevant, vital workshops like this through our Summer Employment Series,” says Employment Outreach Coordinator Jordan Burghardt. “With more and more candidates competing for the same pool of jobs, it’s important for Evanston jobseekers to know how to successfully market themselves as a viable option for any hiring manager.”

Additional SES workshops will follow in July and August. On July 13, presenters will speak on the subject, “How to Appropriately Prepare for Jobs in High-Growth Industries.” The August workshop will cover when and how to expunge a criminal record, with a panel of experts for job seekers to speak with about their own situations.

All SES workshops are free and open to all ages.

The Youth Job Center of Evanston prepares youth ages 14-25 for success in the workplace through job-readiness, placement and employment support in partnership with employers.
