Youth Job Center of Evanston Summer Tutors Program
Celebrates 15 Years

The Youth Job Center of Evanston’s Summer Tutors Program celebrates its 15^th year of placing youth into paid teaching assistant positions this summer. The program will begin accepting applications for the summer on April 1.

Tutors will be hired as teaching assistants in District 65 elementary school classrooms for six weeks beginning June 14. The teens will work Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. They will also attend weekly workshops to equip them with critical job skills, such as how to build a resume and how to prepare for an interview. A stipend will be awarded upon completion of the program.

For youth who are looking to enter the workforce, positions such as these are an important foundation for future employment. The Illinois teen unemployment rate was up to 25.8 percent in January, making tangible work experience for young people even more essential than in the past.

The program acts as an invaluable resource for tutors and students alike. Tutors gain valuable job skills and experience, while acting as positive role models for their younger peers. Through tutoring and mentorship, elementary students have the opportunity to receive the personalized attention they need to foster a deep and lasting love of learning.

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING APPLICATIONS IS FRIDAY, MAY 14, 2010.
